Here’s the full gear list including quantities, weights and total mass of all the gear I carry on the ride. The luggage has slimmed down considerably after the 690 days, and the worst case packed weight is currently at 13.6 kg including the panniers, mask bag and navigators. My full bike luggage volume capacity is at 33.4 litres plus a 9.5 litre Camelbak with a 2 litre water reservoir. The XCountry panniers are highly extendable, as they have handy outside bungee zigzag straps on the sides and back. I regularly carry extra 1.5 litre water bottles in the back straps at the end of the day, before hitting camp.
There is still room for improvement, as my sleeping bag is on the heavy side, and I intend to replace it with a down quilt at some point. The spare rear tube is also very heavy, and I’ll try to find a lighter one eventually. I have to admit, that I did pack along some camping luxuries, such as a stove, pot and gas cartridge. I don’t intend to cook in camp, but having a cup of tea at the end of the day or a cup of coffee in the morning is nice.

Looks good. It’s funny that you would weigh your ear plugs, but I guess all the small items COULD add up… but probably to less than a tenth of a %. Also, those damn crossfires! So heavy. At least it’s “carried” down low.
Hi James, thanks for your input! You’re absolutely right of course; weighing ear plugs is retarded 🙂 But once you start with the gram counting, I prefer to weight absolutely everything to keep it measurable and to see how it evolves.
It’s funny to see the heaviest category is riding gear. The good thing is that it’s worn, so it will not affect the handling and picking up the bike, as it would if it was sitting on the tail. I once made the mistake of sticking a 5 litre fuel canister on the back of the 690 and the balance of the bike resembled a sledge hammer. =D
