Here’s what we carry on Eastern Dirt 14. The original plan was to ship a crate of spare parts to Ulan Ude. That would have been used as a cache, in case something major broke down. In the end we opted to carry more parts on the bikes and be faster in repairs. Reaching Ulan Ude, we will have done ove 10000 km and will need to do an extensive service on the bikes. Several heavy parts such as chains and sprockets will be replaced, making the bike lighter for the bad terrain of the BAM road.

OTHER STUFF
As always, this is open for debate and all comments are welcome. I’m sure some of you will find this list too extensive, especially after all the talk about minimalism. As said above, we wanted to be anle to react to issues quickly, which in turn results in a more extensive spare parts set. What would you leave out and what would you bring instead?
Front wheel bearings probably last whole trip, never broke ones even heavy duty enduro.
Spark plug cap, I have had couple craked for no reason. Light & cheap. Probably worth looking into.
Second set of rear brake pads. Muddy conditions eat those up and you probably drag rear brake much more in slippery roads.
Gel type superglue, will fix anything
anything.
Small multimeter and fuses. Light to carry and may save your day…
Hope this helps, have a good one!
Akseli
Thanks Akseli! Just added the fuse kit, spark plug socket and wire.
I love your blog and the adventures you post. You are a True Adventurer.
Have you prioritized your spares or segmented what is “needed” and “wanted”?
Also, is this currently the streamlined list?
Hi Branden, and thanks for your kind words.
This was a list of everything we carried. For the next big ride it will be a lot leaner, as there was no real problems with the bike.
