The 500 is about to get a lot lighter with a P3 Carbon skid plate, pipe guard and personalized grip guard frame protectors. The main issue with deciding against the rally tank was the fact that it’s 6 kg of weight when it’s full of oil. So all that weight for a single oil change didn’t make a lot of sense on a bike as light as the 500. The P3 carbon plate weighs under a kilogram with the hardware, and oil can be carried in the OEM 1 litre bottles, when it’s needed. Also, doing oil changes is a lot easier with the P3 plate, as opposed to the rally plate which has way more bolts and is fiddly to install back on. The P3 gear looks absolutely mint! Can’t wait to get these on the bike.
Looking forward to hear (and perhaps see) how this is holding up. The bicycle community tells me that carbon is very tough – unless it shatters…
So far so good. Although it made from carbon for lightness, it is also very sturdy and used by factory teams. I’ll report all findings on the build page either way.
