My apologies for the long silence, along with the usual excuses of my professional life getting in the way of being a full time hobo. Anyhow, all has not been lost yet, as I’ve made the decision to further lighten the 500 EXC, along with my standard luggage setup. The designs have already been made and the parts have already started rolling in. Also, the gear list has been slimmed down to around 7 kg and the new luggage system is currently being designed. So there should be an illustrated update somewhere down the road sooner or later. In the mean time, here are some color designs I’ve been tinkering with. So which one do you like?

All look good but maybe it is time for a break from the KTM orange. My vote is for the Finland because it is a cool country and a cool bike design.

Regarding the luggage – will the empty weight be much less than the Mosko Moto Reckless 40?
I just ordered the BCDW skid plate… more rugged, but heavier than other options. Hope that the extra weight (maybe 2 lbs) down that low is a non-issue. That said your focus on weight reduction has me thinking about other mods!

How much tarmac fun do you give up to gain the weight benefits of the 500? I would like to use a bike like that, but there are so many long highway sections in the USA between dirt roads.
By fun I mean both sporting fun, which is probably just fine, but also touring fun which would probably be the weak point…
I like the classic KTM but I say go with Finland. It is fun to be proud of where you come from. Love the blog!!
The blue is cool but it clashes with the bronze – but a blue bashplate might do the trick!
